Update Your Skin Care Routine for Fall

Autumn. It's a time of transition, transformation, and letting go. Whether you're bemoaning the end of summer or embracing fall completely, your body knows the seasons are changing and is reacting to the cooler weather. Here are some tips to keep your skin looking (and feeling) its best.

Moisturize your face. If there's only thing you do for your skin, keeping it moisturized is must! Look at the seasonal changes as a sign and make sure you’re moisturizing properly. As the air gets cooler and drier, your skin may start to feel drier, too. The biggest mistake people make is when they choose to moisturize. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the best time to moisturize is after cleansing, when your skin is wet, as this helps lock in hydration. Our hydrosols provide extra moisture for your skin and should be used as part of a regular skin care program. Follow that with one of our specially blended facial oils -- a few drops will enhance your skin’s own moisture retention and keep it smooth and supple. At YBN, we have long championed moisturizing with facial oils for all skin types.

Exfoliate and moisturize your entire body. As summer draws to a close, your skin needs some help transitioning from heat and humidity to cool, dry, breezy weather. Give your skin a lift by polishing and exfoliating with a natural exfoliating body sponge, or even a rough wash cloth. Use a nourishing, all-natural cleanser like our Organic Body Wash to clean without stripping the skin of all moisture. Follow up with our pure Classic Blend Body Oil, containing lavender to soften and soothe your skin. If you do this before bed, it will even more deeply moisturize your skin and the beautiful lavender scent will relax you into deep sleep.

Give your hands and feet some TLC. Colder weather means gloves, which can dry out your skin. Plus, in another month, flu season will be upon us and you'll be washing your hands more frequently. All of that contributes to raw, itchy skin and dry, ragged cuticles. Massage moisturizing oil into your cuticles at night, and follow with a deeply restorative product like our Hand and Foot Cream to protect and relieve sensitive skin.

Invest in a humidifier. Fall means an end to high humidity, and as soon as the heat comes on in your house the inside air dries out, too. Humidifiers add moisture, and your skin constantly interfaces with the air. The more moisture in the air, the more moisture it will share with your skin. Adding a humidifier to your living and/or sleeping area will keep your sinuses and skin from drying out, making you and your home more comfortable. If you have recurring congestion or fall allergies, our All-Clear blend can help you breathe easier.
